Nakama Proven for Scaling and StabilityĮarlier titles in the Age of Wonders series had relied upon Triumph’s custom backend solutions. Just a couple weeks following the game’s release, we sat down to speak with Arno van Wingerden, Technical Director and Co-founder of Triumph, and Michel Paulissen, lead backend developer for Age of Wonders 4, about the game’s development and early success, as well as their decision to adopt Nakama, and Heroic Labs, as the backend solution for their games. For the nearly 25 year old franchise with a large and passionate fan base, the studio needed to ensure a smooth launch and a stable backend to support the game. For Triumph Studios, the stakes were even higher with the launch of Age of Wonders 4, the latest entry in the critically acclaimed Age of Wonders series. Triumph became a fourth major Paradox studio, while also becoming its first outside of Sweden.The stakes are high for any studio when launching a new title. The deal was worth around $4.5 million dollars (4 million euros). In June 2017 Paradox Interactive announced that it had acquired Triumph Studios. The company is known for Age of Wonders, a strategy game series released starting in 1999, and the action-adventure games Overlord and Overlord 2, released in 20, respectively, using its in-house Creator engine for development. ![]() The studio is known for their Age of Wonders and Overlord series and has developed several games for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Triumph Studios is a Dutch video game developer based in Delft, founded in 1997. ![]()
